The National Panhellenic Conference, one of the largest organizations advocating for women, is the umbrella group for 26 national and international sororities, Serving collegiate and alumnae chapters, our core values of friendship, leadership, service, knowledge, integrity and community guide us in fulfilling our mission.
In 1902, eight sororities met in Chicago where they realized the need for uniform practices and standards, hence NPC was born. Since those early days, the organization has had several name changes, and added 18 women's fraternities to the original eight. The Alumnae Panhellenic groups have developed through the years as purpose-driven organizations dedicated to their local communities and national philanthropies, managed by area alumnae. Membership is open to any alumnae of the 26 NPC member groups. |
Clearwater Alumnae Panhellenic, over 60 years of history
Originally named Inter-sorority Council, Clearwater Panhellenic was chartered in 1963 with 14 member sororities. Phyllis Milliken (ZTA) served two terms as our first council president. By 1972 we had grown to 150 individual members with meetings that were mainly for social fun and cultivating new friendships. Today we have over 300 members representing 22 of the 26 National Panhellenic Conference sororities.

Our purpose is to promote inter-fraternity friendship and cooperation, and to promote the high ideals, purpose and accomplishment of the fraternity system. We invite each member sorority to participate by sending one or more delegates to our monthly council meetings, and by encouraging their local alumnae members to attend our yearly fundraiser and social events.
The first scholarship fund raiser was a champagne brunch and fashion show in 1978. Two $250 scholarships were proudly awarded that year and the individual awards have grown considerably since then. The tradition of Premiere Night fundraising started in 1998 and continued to be our main annual event for the Scholarship fund through 2018, along with donations from the bridge group, book club, sororities and individuals. Our new Women's Empowerment keynote speaker luncheon is the group's main fundraising event, held in January or February.
